Online Billing Notifications

April 27, 2010

As we reach the end of the semester we have to start thinking about the summer. Some of us will have jobs, internships, or just spend a summer at the beach. But then there are people like myself. I will be having a full-time internship while taking three online class. Two of those are J-school requirements, while the other is a Communication course. The University has had a no paper bill process for a while. And this policy is very good for the Go Green Campaign. But seriously what a downer it can be. I am sitting there write one of the million papers due during dead week, and bam a new email. Not usually I would not mind this sort of notification, this time I was annoyed. When I saw it was a Billing Notification email I figured I would look to see what the damage was. ALMOST 5,000 dollars!!! Now I understand that a college education can be expensive, but this seems outrageous to me! The three classes I am taking are online course, so I do not even get hands on experience with my professor. I was charged a bunch of fees for on-campus resources I wont be using, and to top it off I am out-of-state. And for some reason WVU feels us out-of state students should pay five times the amount WV residents pay.

So at the end of the day I have to ask myself whether taking the summer classes are worth it. And considering I will not graduate next May if I dont take them I guess they are. Thanks WVU for making sure my every paycheck this summer goes to my dad. Thanks alot.

When are they going to update MIX??

March 10, 2010

Ever since I started going to school at WVU in the fall of 2007 the email service has been awful. I do not know much about the technical side of the service. But what I do know is that the MIX email website is SLOW. It is almost impossible to sign in and not experience some sort a problem. The email is either too slow loading, or it will time out your session. I do not understand why the university expects me to write emails super fast. If you don’t write your email in like a matter of minutes you will get logged out. It is absolutely ridiculous. I suggest that the university fix this problem so students don’t dread checking their emails. Important emails that teachers send are sometimes overlooked because of this slow connection problem. I suspect the reason the sight is so slow has something to do with the large number of users. But then I would say, do something about it! Get a larger server WVU!

We don’t want to deal with the awful email service this university is providing us any longer!!

SGA Elections

February 23, 2010

This week voting for the SGA elections opened on mix. Students were able to log in using their library logins to the eballot. Although the ballot process seems easy, I find it rather annoying. When I went in to eballot to vote I was assuming I could just vote for one ticket  or the other. This was not the case. The way the ballot is set up you choose President/Vice President as a pair, and then you have to go through and pick 15 Governers. There are little Bios attached to each name, but who wants to sit there and look at every one. Luckily for SGA I have two sorority sisters running and took the time to figure out who all was on the Moutaineer Choice ticket. But honestly if I didn’t know to people who were running, I would not have took the time. If SGA wants alot of students to vote they need to make the process as easy as possible. Students hate logging on to MIX as it is, so don’t make our process even more unenjoyable. But now that the process is over I am glad I voted. I enjoy supporting my friends, even if I don’t like logging into MIX. Another plus to the end of the SGA elections nearing is no more Facebook invites. I have been avoiding Facebook because the amount of crap flooding my inbox is unbelieveable. I know that the students running are just trying to utilize the social medias avaliable to them, but take it down a notch. They make the message they are trying to tell us so annoying we refuse to listen. I think it would be more effective if they just sent a few messages, rather then 4 a day!

But it is almost over and that I am greatful for. Until next year.
