As we reach the end of the semester we have to start thinking about the summer. Some of us will have jobs, internships, or just spend a summer at the beach. But then there are people like myself. I will be having a full-time internship while taking three online class. Two of those are J-school requirements, while the other is a Communication course. The University has had a no paper bill process for a while. And this policy is very good for the Go Green Campaign. But seriously what a downer it can be. I am sitting there write one of the million papers due during dead week, and bam a new email. Not usually I would not mind this sort of notification, this time I was annoyed. When I saw it was a Billing Notification email I figured I would look to see what the damage was. ALMOST 5,000 dollars!!! Now I understand that a college education can be expensive, but this seems outrageous to me! The three classes I am taking are online course, so I do not even get hands on experience with my professor. I was charged a bunch of fees for on-campus resources I wont be using, and to top it off I am out-of-state. And for some reason WVU feels us out-of state students should pay five times the amount WV residents pay.
So at the end of the day I have to ask myself whether taking the summer classes are worth it. And considering I will not graduate next May if I dont take them I guess they are. Thanks WVU for making sure my every paycheck this summer goes to my dad. Thanks alot.
